The best trial run for aliya is probably going to school/year program in israel. You get to live there, have something to do during the day, don't need to worry about work visas, and if you're lucky get funded for your year.<BR/><BR/>Harley, for someone that is shomer shabbat, finding a good shabbat community is more important than a weekday community. You can travel during the week all you want, but on Shabbat you are limited to what within walking distance of your place of residence. I have a friend that lives in Brooklyn Heights and loves it during the week.
