The Courage of Their Convictions

Max Blumenthal, of The Nation, The Huffington Post, and Media Matters fame (and son of Sidney Blumenthal, aide to Bill Clinton in his presidential years), composed the following brief piece at the College Republican National Convention (hat tip: Eli Valley):

I never understood the argument of having to serve to support. Cops, firefighters, rescue workers, etc., put their lives on the line all the time. Can "ordinary" citizens not also be in favor of (or support) the actions of a voluntary police or fire department without being obligated to carry out those actions themselves? Also, Max seems to confuse the right to choose who you want to gain entry to a private function with conducting acts of violence, which makes him seem almost as ridiculous as some of his interview subjects.
